RJGG - Chubu Centrair - Japan

Postby horacio on Thu Mar 31, 2011 12:53 pm

Hi there!

Due to we have an upcoming multiplayer event proposed in our spanish forum, on next Saturday between Tokyo and Chubu, I've been developing a model to add to the already existing runway, wich in FG currently consist only on the main runway and a taxiway, and I'm adding the entire island and a provisional terminal to complete the scenery.

I've developed a 3d model for the island due to I still don't know how to use TerraGear, and I think I will not too.

The model is entirely functional, and I have used the original FG textures for taxiways, grass and other, so the model seems to be an original FG scenery. At the moment I will provide only a downloadable link to any user who wants to participate. Once the model is completed, I will share it at my hangar.

Actual RJGG airport:

The final 3D model I have developed:

Very good!

But, cant remember, jsbsim or yasim aircraft have some problem with collision with scenery objects. AFAIR, it was at LFLJ (Courchevel).

Thanks, VaLeo

I think there is no problem with both flight models. I have try my model with C172P, wich is jsbsim, and with Bo105 and B777-200 wich are yasim:

Nice -glad to see Japan finally coming up in 3D!
However... since the taxiways and the runway is a 3D model now, rather than from TaxiDraw and TerraGear, shouldn't you go ahead and make them more... realistic?
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

The truth is that this was a sudden idea due to the event we have tomorrow, so I have not enough time to provide airport by other option.

By the other hand, I'm always more interested in 3D modeling better than modifying FG terrains, so I leave that task to those who really use Taxidraw and Terragear. When someone develops Chubu with those tools, then I will bring my airport model to contribute FG development.

Regards.

Looking great! Nice to see such attention on one of the lesser known airports of the area.
I bet you are very proud of the progress.

The terminal for Chubu showed before here was a temporary one used only for the event we done on past weeks in our spanish forum. Currently I'm working on a new one developed for me from scratch, and it's almost at its end. After I will develop the tower, hangars, and sorrounding buildings, for complete an entire scenery to offer to users of FG.

Besides 3D model, I'm developing entire textures, and some of them for night animation. Here some screenshots, before the last details to relase the first version:

Chubu is one of the most modern airports in the world, and consider between the first top 10. Here some real pictures to compare:

Just to let you know that I started on the landclassing and TaxiDraw work required for this airport ;)
Your terminal looks awesome; deserves a good ground to stand on!

After one hour of work (most time was spent on downloading a background image :p)

Still needs a lot of more detailing as you can see. Only basic taxiways are added so far. Work will continue later this week.

I'm curious, Gijs. How did you change the area of the airport?

@El Flauta, thanks! I'm sure it will look very nice in combination with Horacio's buildings!
@Skyop, I didn't edit the airport area. I created a new "terrain", and mapped that to the airport's grass texture. Tutorial on this kind of terrain editing is available at the goold old wiki. Luckily this airport has some grass around the runways in RL as well (since TerraGear automaticaly adds a couple of meters around taxiways/runways as you can see in the first picture in this thread).
